Kim Scott
Kim Scott

Kim Scott is a descendant of people who lived along the south-coast of Western Australia, and is one among those who call themselves Noongar. He was born in Perth, Western Australia, in 1957.

Kim has written two novels, True Country and Benang. Benang won the 1999 Western Australia Premier's Book Award, the 2000 Miles Franklin Award, and the 2001 Kate Challis RAKA Award. His novels deal with issues of Indigenous identity and history, and are informed by his and his people's experience of colonisation.

Kim has published poetry, short stories and articles in a range of journals and anthologies. He has been a guest at many writers and Indigenous arts festivals in Australia, been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Melbourne, and was one of the guest speakers in the 2001 Century of Federation Alfred Deakin Lecture Series in Melbourne, Victoria.

Kim has worked extensively in education, and sat on a number of education and arts boards and committees at local, state and national levels, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board of the Australia Council.

He is a proud member of the Wilomin Aboriginal Corporation.
